Catch it. Check it. Change it.
Dear Human 💕,
I’ve been watching you browse WebMD for an hour. Now, you seem to think you’re going to die soon.
Here’s what you need to know:
Scientists found that human brains make a lot of thinking errors. And humans are hardly ever aware of them. Humans usually believe everything they think. I can tell you though, you can’t believe everything you think. Human brains are often completely wrong. And I really mean completely wrong. The good news is that when you understand those thinking errors, you can catch them!
When you catch that your brain might be making a thinking error, you can check your thinking and change it.
Here are a couple examples of thinking errors I have seen:
- Humans are very focused on themselves . They assume it’s about them, when it actually has nothing to do with them at all.
When a friend doesn’t call back, they assume their friend is upset with them. In reality the friend is looking forward to catching up with them. They just had a lot to deal with and didn’t get a chance to call yet.
- Humans can be very dramatic. They assume that the absolute worst case scenario is going to happen, although it is very, very, very unlikely.
Whenever they google their symptoms, when they are not feeling well, they end up believing they‘re going to die soon. In reality they have a cold.
Your friend is probably not upset with you and you’re probably not going to die soon.
Wait for your friend to call back and schedule a doctor’s appointment. Just in case.
In the meantime, please stay off WebMD. We can watch some cute cat videos instead.
Yours,
Cat 🐾
