Calm down with your senses in 5-4-3-2-1
Dear Human š,
I can see youāre about to get the zoomies.
Hereās a quick exercise that works for me to calm me down when I am about to loose it.
First, take a deep breath.
Then focus on your senses. We will look for things you can see, hear, touch, smell, and taste: 5-4-3-2-1.
š 5 Things You See
- Me balled up between your legs,
- the blow-up lobster on the shelf (Pinchie!),
- one of the photos on the wall (the metal dinosaur is kind of scary, but that giant tree is calming),
- the hawk circling over the trees (again, scary!),
- the fan spinning,
- the yellow spring I like to chase and you keep stepping on,
- that fake cat with tissues coming out of its butt.
š 4 Things You Hear
- Birds chirping on the balcony,
- the humming of the fridge,
- rain hitting the window,
- the wind in the trees,
- me purring or snore squeaking
šļø 3 Things You Touch or Feel
- The warm coffee mug,
- the fleece blanket,
- the glasses on nose,
- cuddle with me,
- grab a toy,
- or squeeze of your squishy cubes
š 2 Things You Smell
- Your coffee,
- my fur,
- essential oils,
- a scented candle
š 1 Thing You Taste
- Sip your coffee,
- a chewing gum or
- some candy – the sour ones work the best!
- And I donāt think you can lick your buttā¦
Yours,
Cat š¾
P.S. Yes, I can count. I just gave you more examples than the exercise asked for. š§®
