Find your Glimmers
Dear Human 💕,
Glimmers can really brighten your day!
What are glimmers? Basically, glimmers are the opposite of triggers.
Oh, what are triggers?
A trigger is a reminder of a difficult emotional experience. It could be a visual image, smell, sound, taste, or touch. A trigger signals danger to you and it will activate your internal alarm system.
Some of my triggers:
- The doorbell, as it reminds of strangers coming to the apartment invading my personal space.
- “The cone”, as it reminds of the time when I had surgery and could not eat or do what I wanted. I could not even get up on my cat tree or get into my “cat penthouse”.
- Seeing humans wear bunny ears also triggers me, although I don’t know why.
While triggers signal danger, Glimmers signal safely.
Glimmers are moments of joy that come from appreciating simple things.
Some of my glimmers:
- Enjoying sunlight on my fur.
- Spotting a squirrel.
- The smell of shrimp.
- Getting a piece of shrimp.
- Hiding in the cave my human creates for me with their legs and a blanket.
Glimmers might seem small and insignificant, but they activate our internal safety system. Thus, they make us feel safe and calm. Find and enjoy your glimmers. They can easily go unnoticed, so I recommend you keep track of them in that journal you’ve been writing so much into.
Think about people, places, things, and experiences in your life that make you feel safe and calm. What are your glimmers?
Yours,
Cat 🐾
P.S. I don’t understand why you think whole cooked shrimps are human food that should not be shared with me. You feed me a lot of shrimp pieces in my wet food. So, shrimps are cat food.
