It’s not a threat. It’s a challenge.

Dear Human 💕,

You don’t seem to know what to do to deal with the situation. Whenever I feel stuck, it helps me to look at the situation as a challenge instead of a threat.

If your brain perceives a situation as a threat, it will trigger your internal alarm system. You’re likely going to freeze like a cat staring at a bathtub full of water. You won’t be able to think clearly. In a state like this you can easily get stuck.

A challenge on the other paw is something to solve. Seeing the situation as a challenge puts your brain into problem solving mode. In a state like this you can figure out what your options are and how you can navigate through this.

Here’s something that happened to me the other day while my humans were out. I felt like I was starving. The only food that I could find was trapped inside that green ball. What could I do?

I could see it as a threat:

I keep staring at the green ball. I am doomed! I will starve to death!

I could see it as challenge:

Let’s get the food out of that green ball. It has holes that seem big enough for the kibble to fall out. So, if I kick the ball around long enough, I will get to the kibble piece by piece. Crisis averted!

So, challenge accepted.

Yours,
Cat 🐾

P.S. Solving a challenge can be fun. I’ve seen you enjoying all those strategy games. You figured out how to terraform Mars. You got this!
