Let your inner counselor decide
Dear Human 💕,
I can see you’re struggling with a decision right now. Your logic is telling you one thing, your emotions are telling you something completely different. You’re stuck in the middle, feeling confused and overwhelmed.
Let me explain what’s happening using some of those Star Trek characters you love watching.
You have a logical brain (your prefrontal cortex) – that’s your inner Spock. He analyzes facts, weighs pros and cons, and makes decisions based purely on logic. Very practical, but sometimes cold.
You also have an emotional brain (your limbic system) – that’s your inner Captain Kirk. He makes decisions based on gut feelings and what feels right in the moment. Very passionate, but sometimes impulsive.
When Spock and Kirk disagree, you need your inner counselor, Deanna Troi, to step in. She listens to both and considers the facts and the emotions. Then she figures out what you can do that makes sense and feels right. Your inner Deanna Troi knows what’s truly best for you.
Here’s how you make your best decisions:
Listen to your inner Spock: What are the facts? What does logic tell you?
I think that…
Listen to your inner Kirk: What are your emotions telling you? What does your gut say?
I feel that…
Let your inner Deanna Troi decide: What makes sense and feels right?
Therefore, I do…
Next time you’re torn between what you think you should do and what you feel like doing, pause and ask your inner counselor what to do.
Now, what is she telling you about that decision you’re wrestling with?
Yours,
Cat 🐾
P.S. Therapists call this place where logic and emotion meet your “Wise Mind.” It’s a core concept in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) that helps you make balanced decisions using both rational thinking and emotional understanding.
