Take a next step. Even if it’s tiny.
Dear Human 💕,
I can see you’re depressed and you feel like you can’t do anything. You feel overwhelmed and stuck.
You don’t have any energy and everything seems to be a struggle. You don’t feel like doing anything. So, you don’t do anything. You will do things, when you feel better.
Meow. Here’s the catch: you won’t do more things until you feel better, and you won’t feel better until you do more things. That’s human. You do see the problem with that, meow?
Here’s the thing: it’s easier to change what you do than to change how you feel. To get unstuck you need to do something. Something small. Something mini. Something tiny.
What is something you can do now?
- You don’t need to do it all.
- You don’t need to do it perfectly.
- It could be just for a minute or two.
The apartment is a mess? Start by sending the robot vacuum through without moving all the chairs and the cat tree out of the way.
Need to do laundry? Start by collecting all the laundry into the laundry basket.
Want to get some exercise? Start with a one-minute plank.
It’s all about moving forward. Take a next step. Even if it seems tiny. A smart human once said many tiny steps will take you further than a giant leap never taken. Any progress is progress.
Maybe the next step is to take a couple of minutes to think about what the next step could be.😄
This pair of jeans doesn’t have to be washed yet. I sniffed it.
Yours,
Cat 🐾
P.S. Once you take a step, the next step will be easier. And then the next step will be easier. And then the next step will be easier. And so on. Therapist called this Behavioral Activation.
