The world doesn’t mind about you as much as you think
Dear Human 💕,
You seem to worry too much what other humans think about you. You feel like every other human is keeping on eye on what you are doing. You’re worried that other humans will think badly about you. You’re worried you might embarrass yourself. You’re worried you’re upsetting or offending some other human. Family, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and even strangers around you. That’s a lot of attention, isn’t it?
First of all, other humans really don’t pay as much attention to you as you think.
Humans at at the center of their own universe and everything revolves around them. Every human is busy with their lives. Trust me, humans are way more focused on themselves and cat videos than on you or any other human around them.
Next, even if they are noticing what you do, they don’t mind as much as you think. You are your own worst critic. All other humans are way less concerned. And honestly, most humans don’t even give a feck about what you do at all.
Some human put it like this:
You worry less about what people think of you when you realize how seldom they do.
Remember when you spilled a bunch of your stuff from your suitcase – including your glittery ruby red Dorothy slippers – across the very busy check-in area? You were in such a hurry to get out of the way after you had to open the suitcase. You were horribly embarrassed! And what happened? No one laughed at you. Most humans didn’t notice at all or walked by barely glancing at the scene. And the one human that came up and helped you gather your things? He said his mom had the same slippers and that he loved them.
I also love those slippers. They reflect the sunlight and create a lot of red dots to chase.
Yours,
Cat 🐾
P.S. The fact that humans considerably overestimate how much attention other humans are paying to them is called the spotlight effect by psychologists.
