Plan things to look forward to

Dear Human 💕,

I saw how hard it was to get out of bed this morning.

You were thinking about everything you’ve been struggling with for weeks now, and all the things you have to tackle today. You weren’t ready for it all to continue. You were so tired. From all of it. You just wanted to stay.

Life can be tough at times. It can be a lot to hang in there and make it through the day. Especially when what you’re doing feels pointless. When you have to deal with things you feel you shouldn’t have to deal with.

Spending six hours on the phone trying to reschedule a flight is nobody’s idea of time well spent.

On days like that, it helps me to have something to look forward to. Just knowing something good is coming can give me the energy to keep going.

It doesn’t have to be big. Small stuff will do it.

I always look forward to that warm rectangle of light on the floor.

Meow. You can’t think of anything?

Ask yourself:

The small stuff:

  • Your morning coffee and cuddles with me on the sofa
  • A lunch walk through the park with the other human. That park where all the puppies are.
  • A hot shower at the end of the day
  • The next chapter of that book or the new episode of that show you like so much

Every now and then:

  • A game night with friends with one of those decadent looking cheese plates
  • Dinner at a special restaurant
  • An evening – or day – at the sauna. Maybe even get a massage.
  • A movie at the theater. You were excited about that movie with the alien that looks like a rock.

The big stuff:

  • That concert you’ve been waiting for
  • A long weekend away with the other human
  • Your winter adventure week to play in the snow with some of your favorite humans
  • Your next big vacation to explore a new place

Plan more of those things!

Put them in your calendar so you can see them waiting for you.

If you want what’s coming to always be right in front of you, create yourself a countdown you can check anytime:

That little number can pull you through a lot.

Something to look forward to can pull you out of bed, through a difficult day, through a difficult month.

Whatever works, keep it coming – daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. So there’s always something to look forward to.

Filling your life with things you enjoy and things that matter to you – that’s what life is all about.

Yours,
Cat 🐾

P.S. Some days this won’t work. Nothing will sound good, nothing will pull you. On those days, you just can’t. That’s okay too. I’ll be here.
