The world is dangerous. Get out there!

Dear Human 💕,

You haven’t been on your bike in over a week. Not since you read about that cyclist that was killed. That was terrible! I get why that scares you.

The world is dangerous. A lot of scary things happen out there.

  • The earth shakes so violently that buildings collapse.
  • Ocean tides rip humans off beaches.
  • Volcanoes spit fire.
  • Dogs attack.
  • Bisons attack.
  • Planes catch on fire after power banks explode.
  • Houses burn down.
  • And whatever humans use to move around can crash.

Nature is a force and accidents happen. And life is fragile.

Avoiding all the things that might kill you is not the answer. Even if you decided to not leave the house anymore, you’re not safe. You could fall or drown in the bathtub. And even produce is trying to kill you with explosive diarrhea (candy seems to be safe).

What are the odds?

  • Your chance of dying is 1:1
  • Most likely you are going to die of heart disease or cancer.
  • You are six times more likely to be killed as a pedestrian than as a cyclist.

So, getting on your bike to raise funds for cancer research might save your life.

Enjoy your ride.

Yours

P.S. Therapists call this catastrophizing. Your brain jumping straight to the worst possible outcome, even when it’s the least likely one. And does it help to worry that much?
