Make things. Just for fun.

Dear Human 💕,

I heard you playing with zombie kittens the other night. Something about exploding kittens? Kittens??

I didn’t see any kittens. But I did notice it’s that time of year again, when all the spooky things show up. Blinking bats, skeletons, and those tiny plastic spiders that make excellent toys.

And that big orange thing flickering outside the window at night? That’s new! I hope it doesn’t scare away the birds.

For many nights now, I’ve watched you measure, draw, cut, and glue. Some nights with a lot of cursing. I wonder what you’re making this year. Hopefully, you’re not on fire again.

Then yesterday I heard you tell the other human, “I’m not creative.“

Meow! You create things all the time. That IS creative. And other humans love those things! Many times you’ve come home with a prize, which usually has something to do with skeletons. Last year’s prize was the best so far. It’s so soft and cozy. I love to sleep on it.

Humans think creative means painting like Picasso. And they’re sure they’ll never be good enough, so they don’t even start. Meow? Have you seen his cat catching a bird? That face? And it’s in a museum. What you make doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.

When you make your costumes, you’re soooooo focused. You forget the time. You forget dinner. Yours, not mine. I make sure of that.

When it’s finally done, you’re all excited. You made that. You’re looking forward to the big reveal at the party, when other humans have just as much fun with it as you had making it.

So make things. Just for fun. For you and for other humans.

Enjoy the party and tell me about all the other costumes!

Yours,
Cat 🐾

P.S. I see all those bags of human treats. What about me? Trick or Treat!
