How to use your inner compass?
Dear Human 💕,
You figured out how your inner compass works. It points you toward what matters to you. You know how to read it now. you notice when it points toward something, and when it points away.
But now you’re stuck again. And I can see why.
Your compass is pointing in multiple directions at once. It’s spinning!
When using your compass, you need to know that it’s not like the compass you use for hiking. That compass only points in exactly one direction: North. Your inner compass can point in multiple directions at the same time.
That means different paths can all fit what matters to you. All of them are right for you. But moving towards one thing might move you away from something else that you also care about. And that feels wrong. It’s confusing to humans.
I’ve seen this happen. It’s 6 pm, you’re still working, and you’re trying to decide how to spend your evening:
- Finish the project? Doing excellent work matters to you.
- Go home to your human? The humans you love matter to you.
- Go for a bike ride? Fun and taking care of yourself matter to you.
Your compass is spinning, because all of it matters.
So what do you do? You ask: what matters most in this moment, right now?
Some days that’s easy. It’s your human’s birthday, so you go home. Simple.
But some days? Not so simple. The project is due tomorrow and it’s your human’s birthday. Meow. Both matter very much tonight. That’s hard.
So, you look at the bigger picture and ask: Which of these things is flexible?
If it’s a very important project and your human doesn’t mind celebrating tomorrow, you finish the project. If you have big plans with the human tonight and you can finish the project early tomorrow morning, you go celebrate.
Keep in mind that saying “not now” to something isn’t the same as saying “never.” The trick is to actually make time for it later.
Remember what I told you before? For life to feel right, you want to make time for everything that matters to you. Not all at once. Not every single day. But over time.
Look at me. Some days I watch birds for hours. Some days I want nothing but cuddles. Some days I play till I’m exhausted. Some days I nap in the sun all afternoon. I need all of it for life to feel right. I don’t do it all in one day. I pick what feels right in the moment and I make sure to make time for all of it during the week.
You need it all. And while you can’t do it all in one moment, you can do it all across the many moments of your life.
Your path you must decide. Balance, human, you must learn balance.
(Yes, I’ve been watching that green one with the pointy ears.)
Yours,
Cat 🐾
P.S. If you are struggling to pick a direction, look at your Pie of Life. Each slice represents one of your directions. Checking your pie helps you balance your time and get those slices to the size you actually want them to be.
