Do the Opposite
Dear Human 💕,
I noticed you haven’t left the apartment in a while. And you’ve been sleeping a lot under the heated blanket on the sofa. You look lethargic to me.
I’ve learned that every emotion triggers a specific urge in you. For example, if you feel afraid, your body will immediately urge you to run and hide. However, giving in to that urge is often not the best thing to do. Often, doing the opposite is what actually helps.
When you feel afraid:
Instead of hiding in the closet, approach the visiting human slowly. There’s a chance you get a treat.
When you feel angry:
Instead of hissing and attacking, get away and distract yourself by kicking that carrot toy.
When you feel ashamed:
Instead of hiding your feelings, open up and share with another human. It’s likely they experienced something similar.
When you envy someone:
Instead of sabotaging them, be inspired by them. How can you get what you envy?
When you feel sad:
Instead of withdrawing and hiding under the blanket on the comfy chair, connect with a cat or human you love. Do something that you enjoy.
Now, back to you on the sofa. I was told by a human that if they feel lethargic, instead of snoozing, getting up and doing something is helpful. Honestly, as cat I can’t see how not snoozing is ever helpful. You could give it a try though.
Pick up the string and let’s play!
Yours,
Cat 🐾
