Opposites can co-exist
Dear Human 💕,
The idea that opposites can co-exist is confusing to humans at first. You might have to think about this one. So, hear me out.
Humans like to label everything as good or bad. It’s either good or bad. It’s either right or wrong. In reality it’s not that simple. The world is not black and white. Usually, it’s not either-or. Instead, seemingly opposite things can be true at the same time. So, think both-and.
Seemingly opposite things can be true for yourself:
- I have been fed AND I want more food.
- I am capable AND I need help.
- I am doing my best AND I can get better.
- I am angry AND I can be respectful.
- I can be upset with you AND I still love you.
- I can accept myself as I am AND I can push myself to make positive changes.
- I can care about others AND I focus on myself.
Seemingly opposite things can also be true for different creatures. Every creature has their own reality with different experiences and preferences. Thus, different creatures can see things differently. There is no right or wrong.
- You like to eat tuna on pizza AND I like my tuna straight from the can.
- You love the automated vacuum cleaner AND I hate it.
- You don’t like birds AND I love them.
- You think 8 hours of sleep are enough AND I think 16 hours of sleep are enough.
Allowing seemingly opposites to co-exist was life-changing for me. I wish I had figured this out in my first life.
Yours,
Cat 🐾
P.S. Use the word AND, not BUT to show that both statements are true. Whenever you use BUT, the first part of the sentence doesn’t matter anymore. Take “I appreciate that you are trying to help me, BUT I am frustrated” as an example. It doesn’t sound like the help is appreciated, does it?
